Hello All, I bought a side lever Crack Shot last year. I should have read the de Haas book first. Serial number for artlantis 6 crack.

It appears to be a flawed design. But it is a on a cute nicely balanced little frame. I'm not afraid to do some major renovations to make this thing a safe firearm. There just doesn't appear to be enough room in the receiver to put in a real extractor, and the breech block is tiny and manipulated by a flimsy arrangement. Is anyone in this group familiar with the problems of this Stevens?

I wouldn't be afraid to gunsmith this thing in a major way, but I also have it for sale right now with a new Wisner extractor and firing pin, (to be installed) but nobody in todays market seems interested. It was an economical boy's rifle, and is usually found in less than good condition. Black powder, corrosive primers and neglect all taking their toll. I recently tightened one up by machining a new pivot screw and silver soldering the sleeve that operates the breechblock to the lever to eliminate lost motion there and make extraction more positive.
